EMERSON EVENTING
JOANNE EMERSON
Joanne Emerson has been an instructor for more than 30 years. Horse crazy since she was a child, she’s spent her life committed to the care and training of horses and their riders. She’s ridden up to the Intermediate level with a homebred horse and helped children and adults alike gain skills and confidence, but most importantly, discover the fun and joy in a partnership with their horse.
Over the years, Joanne has worked with horses and riders of every level. She has extensive experience training horses, from restarting young off-the-track Thoroughbreds to continuing education of older horses or ones learning a new career. She partners with riders to develop their horses to meet their individual needs, whether they’re looking to enjoy casual and safe riding at home or developing a horse for competition. No matter the background or goals, Joanne is committed to creating an understanding and supportive environment where every horse and rider can thrive.
DELANEY EMERSON
As the daughter of a trainer, Delaney Emerson has been on a horse since before she was born. She’s been eventing competitively since the age of five and has shown numerous horses through the Intermediate and two star level. Now 30 years old, Delaney has worked for some of the top riders in the world, including five-star eventers Anna Collier, Lillian Heard-Wood, John Camlin, and Caroline Martin. Before returning to Portland in spring of 2025, Delaney was the head trainer at a premier eventing facility outside of Memphis, Tennessee.
All her life, Delaney has understood and embraced the special challenges and immense rewards of training horses. She brought along her own 2007 OTTB High Caliber to multiple top-five wins at Training and Preliminary levels and has trained numerous horses for successful careers with their young rider and adult amateur owners.
